Research Interests

My research program focuses on improving psychosocial, behavioral, and care quality outcomes for cancer patients, survivors, and their family members, as well as foster better sun protection and reduce UV exposure among the general population. My work primarily employs family-based and digital intervention approaches. Our recent work focuses on fostering better transitions off of active treatment for lymphoma survivors.

Mechanism for Development of Rare Colorectal Cancer Subtype Identified

Researchers from Rutgers Cancer Institute recently discovered a mechanism to explain what drives the formation of mucinous colorectal adenocarcinoma, and also identified the genes responsible for the regulation of this mechanism.

Carolyn Hayes, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, chief nursing officer for Oncology Services at RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute, has been selected by the American Academy of Nursing as a 2021 Fellow.
