Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and American Lung Association Join Forces to Support LUNG FORCE

LUNG FORCE Signature Partner

American Lung Association and LUNG FORCEThe American Lung Association in New Jersey (ALANJ) proudly announces today that the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey is the Signature Partner of ALA’s LUNG FORCE initiative in New Jersey.

“We are thrilled about the new partnership with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey to join forces with us and raise awareness of lung cancer and for lung health in New Jersey,” said Deb Brown, CEO, President, American Lung Association of the Mid-Atlantic.  “We are facing a crisis in women’s health.  Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of women in the United States and has been since 1987.  On average, less than half of all women diagnosed with lung cancer will be alive one year after diagnosis and only one percent of 1,000 women surveyed were aware of this statistic. It is an absolute privilege to have the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center as our signature partner to help us increase patient awareness, improve lung cancer diagnoses and help erase the social stigma surrounding lung cancer,” Brown stated.

LUNG FORCE, a national movement led by the American Lung Association, is on a mission to make lung cancer history—uniting women to stand together with a collective strength and determination to lead the fight against lung cancer and for lung health.

“We are excited for the educational opportunities that our partnership with the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE can bring to the residents of New Jersey,” said Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey’s Director, Robert S. DiPaola, MD. “The importance of lung health and the fight against lung cancer, is part of our overall commitment to providing the most advanced cancer care to our patients and conducting groundbreaking cancer research...” “Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey’s physicians and scientists are leaders in their field and are working diligently to develop new approaches to the detection, treatment and prevention of cancer through cutting-edge clinical, basic, population, and translational research,” stated DiPaola.

The American Lung Association is pleased that Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey will host the first annual LUNG FORCE: Taking a Breath for Women Breakfast on November 5, 2014. The program will feature two educational breakout sessions, a mission moment, and networking opportunities.

The goal of LUNG FORCE events is to raise awareness, educate and fight the rise of lung cancer in women.

ALANJ and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey are also working together to plan the upcoming LUNG FORCE Walk, taking place in the spring of 2015. For more information on LUNG FORCE activities and programs, please visit, www.lungforce.org.

About the American Lung Association
Now in its second century, the American Lung Association is the leading organization working to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.  LUNG FORCE, led by the American Lung Association, will unite women to stand together against lung cancer and for lung health.  Lung Cancer is the #1 cancer killer of women in the United States. Consider these eye-opening facts: Every five minutes, a woman in the U.S. is told she has lung cancer; the lung cancer death rate in women has more than doubled over the past 35 years; and anyone can get lung cancer. We stand together as one LUNG FORCE—for our breath, for our lives. For more information on LUNG FORCE visit: www.lungforce.org.
