Research Interests
- Exploration of the mechanisms through which vitamin D induces differentiation and cell cycle arrest of human acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells, an avenue that may lead to the use of vitamin D, or analogs (deltanoids), as adjuvants for chemotherapy or for chemoprevention of cancer. These studies include the recognition of limiting steps in cycle progression, now generally referred to as cell cycle checkpoints, and their control by p27Kip1, which the laboratory found to be the principal regulator of this process in AML cells.
