Tissue Retrieval Service

The specific objectives of this shared resource are:

  • procure, prepare, and distribute normal, benign, and malignant human tissues in the requested quantities and state of preservation;
  • provide clinical and pathological information through a secure, confidential database;
  • provide consultation to CINJ investigators in the design of clinical research protocols that require tissue procurement for scientific correlation;
  • facilitate investigator compliance with and navigation through mandated regulatory processes (SRB, IRB, HIPAA) to promote performance of high-quality, safe, and ethical research;
  • ensure that personnel using human materials follow safety guidelines;
  • facilitate investigator-initiated clinical trials by collection of tissues and blood products according to specific protocols through coordination with the CINJ Office of Human Research Services; and
  • prioritize the processing and distribution of specimens among CINJ investigators.

The shared resources of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ) are specialized service facilities that support the cancer research efforts of our members.

The shared resources are supported primarily by the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) from the National Cancer Institute.  Additional support may be provided from other sources, such as chargeback systems, institutional funding and/or other grants. The support from the CCSG allows the core facilities to provide benefits to Cancer Center members, such as ensured access to services or subsidies to user rates.
