The Pharmacokinetics (PK) and Pharmacodynamics (PD) Shared Resource supports translational and clinical research by providing investigators on two of CINJ’s consortium partner campuses (New Brunswick, Piscataway) with a wide range of sophisticated analytical tools to identify and quantify small molecules in body fluids and tissues. Services include methods development, training and sample analysis. Such analyses are essential for preclinical, phase I and pilot trials involving evaluation of new therapeutic agents and in the development of new drug combinations. .


The specific objectives of this shared resource are:

  • To develop and apply sensitive analytical methods for the quantitation of anti-cancer agents and chemopreventive compounds and their metabolites in biological fluids and tissues
  • To assist investigators in designing blood, urine, and/or tissue sampling strategies based upon available preclinical and clinical pharmacology
  • To perform pharmacodynamic assays to assess drug target expression and/or activity as potential biomarkers in normal and malignant tissues
  • To investigate relationships between PK parameters and PD variables, in collaboration with the Biometrics Shared Resource
  • To quantify circulating tumor cells in peripheral blood from patients
