Overview
University Medical Center at Princeton (UMCP) offers comprehensive, personalized care for cancer patients.
UMCP’s Cancer Program combines advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies with a dedicated team of cancer experts who carefully coordinate each patient’s care, ensuring that treatment is highly individualized, progressive and comprehensive. By providing a complete continuum of care, patients have full access to the specialized clinical services, rehabilitative care and support they need to aid treatment and recovery from cancer.
As a Clinical Research Affiliate of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and an accredited oncology program of the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, University Medical Center at Princeton is helping define new standards in cancer care, while supporting national efforts to find a cure. Our affiliation with CINJ ensures that we can offer convenient access to state-of-the-art clinical research trials and treatment protocols, in addition to the latest methods of prevention and diagnosis.
Multidisciplinary Treatment Approach
UMCP’s Cancer Program emphasizes providing the personalized care of a community hospital with the advances of a respected teaching facility.
From the start, patients can expect personal attention from a multidisciplinary team that is involved in all aspects of their care. Specialists in such areas as diagnostics, surgery, radiation therapy and medical oncology—many of whom are multi-board certified—work together to provide the most effective plan of action for each patient, from diagnosis to post-treatment.
The treatment team also includes certified oncology nurses with extensive experience and training, therapists, pharmacists with board certification in oncology and pharmacotherapy, registered and certified radiology technicians and laboratory professionals, nutritionists, and other healthcare professionals.
Advanced Diagnostic and Treatment Tools
UMCP is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology for detecting and treating cancer, including low-dose, spiral CT and PET scanning, mammography and 3.0T MRI. Computer technology is used to blend together images from multiple sources, such as PET, MRI and CT scans, to enable radiation treatments to be more precisely targeted so as to destroy cancer cells with less impact on surrounding healthy tissue. UMCP also has the advanced capabilities of minimally invasive surgery using the da Vinci Surgical System® for a variety of conditions, including prostatectomy and cervical and uterine cancer.
