$1.6M Awarded to Support Collaborative Breast Cancer Study of
African-American Women at CINJ

Compared to Caucasian women, African-American women are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer at a younger age and at a later stage, and have more aggressive features associated with poor prognosis. However, the reasons for these differences remain unknown. To address these issues, The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ) is expanding its current research efforts as part of a new consortium of four studies in African-American women. The Women's Circle of Health Study, based at CINJ and led by epidemiologist Elisa Bandera, MD, PhD, will receive $1.6 million in funding over the next five years to continue recruiting women and to expand the target area from seven central and northern New Jersey counties to nine.Read more

It's Pink Ribbon Bagel Time: Panera Bread's Annual Campaign
to Benefit CINJ

The return of a delectable signature item to Panera Bread® bakery-café locations during the month of October will help CINJ tackle a disease that affects one in nearly eight U.S. women -- breast cancer. To mark National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, participating Panera Bread bakery-café locations once again will offer their Pink Ribbon Bagel. Proceeds from the local sale of this unique treat will benefit the CINJ Foundation for the fifth year in a row. For every Pink Ribbon Bagel sold in the 37 Panera Bread locations in northern and central New Jersey, 10 cents will come back to CINJ for breast cancer research and patient education programs. Also throughout the month of October at participating bakery-cafés, one dollar from each Power of Pink Baker's Dozen of bagels sold will be donated to support CINJ. Over the past four years, more than $28,000 has been raised for CINJ through the effort.Read more

Allstate New Jersey's Quotes for a Cure Program to Benefit CINJ

After raising nearly $50,000 over the past two years to support research, treatment, prevention, and education programs at CINJ Allstate New Jersey Insurance Company has kicked off its 2011 "Quotes for a Cure" program. This year, Allstate New Jersey hopes to raise more than $40,000 for CINJ through the program. Now through November 1, Allstate New Jersey will donate $10 to the CINJ Foundation for every auto or life insurance quote requested (up to $20 per person) through any of Allstate's 240 New Jersey agents.Read more

CINJ to Host 2011 Roche Lectureship: New Frontiers in Managing Metastatic Breast Cancer

The Cancer Institute of New Jersey is hosting the 2011 Roche Lectureship for healthcare professionals titled "New Frontiers in Managing Metastatic Breast Cancer." CINJ Drs. Deborah Toppmeyer, Rebecca Moss, and Elliot Coups will discuss the latest in novel targeted agents against breast cancer, psycho-social needs of patients with metastatic breast cancer, and clinical trials available at CINJ and its Network of hospitals. Maura Dickler, MD, from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center will serve as the keynote speaker. The dinner/lecture event begins at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, at CINJ in New Brunswick.
